The tie-up gives Disney a timely marketing lift as it works to rebound from a challenging year at the box office.

Miniso has launched a new product line inspired by Disney’s Zootopia 2, part of a collaboration with Walt Disney Animation Studios for the film’s theatrical release. The rollout includes themed pop-up experiences across Asia and North America aimed at generating fan interest in the new movie.

Across Asia, Miniso is staging pop-ups in China, Hong Kong, India, Vietnam, Malaysia, and Singapore. Each location features designs and installations inspired by the film, including depictions of Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde. Beyond product displays, visitors can explore interactive installations, watch dance performances, and participate in various on-site challenges.

Miniso said the collection features more than 300 items, spanning collectible toys, homeware, stationery, and accessories. Expected highlights include a blind box series, bag charms, and vinyl plushies.

The partnership arrives at a critical moment for Disney, which is attempting to reverse a downturn following one of its weakest theatrical years in decades. Several recent high-profile releases have underperformed, including Snow White and Tron: Ares. Even established entries from its Marvel lineup, such as Captain America: Brave New World and Thunderbolts, fell short of analyst expectations.

The muted results have increased pressure on the studio to secure a strong performance from Zootopia 2, particularly in China, one of the world’s largest film markets. Chinese box office revenue is expected to reach RMB 50 billion (USD 7 billion) by year’s end, according to the Global Times, buoyed by the success of Ne Zha 2. The emphasis on the market was clear, as Disney CEO Bob Iger attended the film’s Shanghai premiere in person on November 18.

Iger and co will take some relief in the film’s opening day performance in China. Zootopia 2 generated more than RMB 213 million (USD 29.8 million) on its first day, setting a national single-day record for a foreign animated film, according to Maoyan Pro. It also became the country’s top animated release based on presale figures, with first-day presales surpassing RMB 189 million (USD 26.5 million) as of November 26.
